i broke down.

Published by Meghan at 10:21 am under Babble

for the past year or so, i have avoided having a donate button. i don’t like people to feel like they are obligated to click it and give money. i also don’t like people making a fuss or spending money on me. a simple email is plenty, makes me smile, and brightens my day. many a  people have asked me to put up said button, but i have refused time and time again.

with the podcast having so many issues on the free web host, i have had to make a decision. i’ve had to choose a new server. and the server that i have chosen for it’s reliability and quality service, unfortunately, charges a monthly fee. and the fee is the reason i put up the button.  so, just so you know, donations will be helping me pay for this service, update podcasting equipment as needed, and helping pay for fiber/books/classes to review (but honestly, i don’t see that one actually happening).

so i feel humbled… i feel a little dirty, honestly. but, it’s over there… on the side bar… taunting me… laughing at me… mocking me, because it succeeded in knocking me off of my free podcast pedestal.

Don’t you worry… we all know it’s for the server fee and not because of anything else…. and you brighten our weeks, so just like we gave to Ravelry when needed, we’ll give you! =) And don’t see it as a defeat, but as a conquest! Because we really would rather have your podcast than not!!!!

Meghan, you shouldn’t feel bad about the donation button, I understand wanting to keep things 100% free but if it’s not working then you do what you have to. And there’s nothing wrong with getting money for what you do, you create a wonderful podcast full of great information and fun and that’s why I’m donating to you.

    best wishes,

    -Kala

i think you deserve a donate button. don’t be so hard on yourself. be hard on the crappy free equipment! ha ha! other podcasts have come and gone, have flourished and twittered away, have risen and fallen and risen. all the while YOUR podcast stays consistent. weekly, full of good things and it only gets better. i seriously agree with your choice. it’s not as if you are making anyone pay, then it would be a pay-per-podcast? you are worth it, and i commend you!!

Meghan, I just listened to your last podcast on the bus ride home this afternoon and was going to suggest that you add a donate button. (I guess great minds think alike!) Your podcasts are important to all of us for a multitude of reasons and you should not have to shoulder the expense by yourself. It is a small price to pay for the hours and hours of enjoyment I receive from listening to your voice. In fact, your podcast is one of my FAVORITE THINGS!

You deliver a podcast that is good quality and are consistently imparting knowledge to the masses who love fiber. I think a donation button is a great idea.

…But you’re not off ou’re free podcast pedestal! It’s still free to the world!!! It just lets us show a little love in a way that not only makes you feel good, but relieves some stress from your life too.

And I think you deserve it. Because your last cast got me through a 2.5 hour rush hour commute home (that usually only takes 30 minutes) without my head exploding.

I’m glad there’s a donate button. Feel good about it, ’cause it makes us feel good to be able to help. :D

I listen to you while I work. I am A merchandiser and you give me a connection to what I really want to do. I want to learn to knit I want to be creative, you bring me hope . I will try to support the podcast, you are important to me.

    Love you and your family

Don’t feel bad. I love your podcast and have no negative feelings towards donating to keep you up and running. I pay a lot of money for magazine subs, audible.com, Netflix and other outlets for my entertainment and education. Why should you expect any less of me???

I will happily be a donating member of the Stitch It family!!!!!

I have the same issues with money and not having it. I feel impotent also when I have to ask for help but this is different. This isn’t money for you per se. It’s money to support what so many enjoy. The gift of you. So buck up girlfriend and get over yourself. Let all those that love you give something back. Plus, we’ll have much better podcasts and hopefully less frustration downloading episodes. And now you have leverage. If the site you choose doesn’t work well, then fire them and hire someone else!

Meghan, I am so glad you put up this button. I agree with everything everyone else has said so far. I am happy to have the chance to donate and help you keep your podcast going.

Your podcast gives so much to so many of us. Hey! Look at it this way: I get so many ideas listening to you, I don’t need to subscribe to a knitting magazine, so you’ve saved me money, which I am happy to give you for the cause of keeping the podcast going. Hm, did that make sense?

Thanks again for everything you do–
