I've had a Toddy Maker for nearly 20 years; totally worth the money! I use a whole pound of coffee and make 2 quarts of extract that keep in the fridge for weeks. The thick felt filter takes out all the oils and bitterness.

Here's my hints for cold brewed coffee: (1) make special flavor (hazelnut or vanilla are our favorites) and freeze in ice cube trays, store in ziploc bags. Drop 2 in a mug and pour boiling water over - instant coffee that tastes like it isn't instant! (2) Make regular coffee and freeze in cubes as above, put several in a reusable water bottle and cover with milk or water - delicious iced coffee to sip on a walk or the golf course!

Thanks for the cold brew idea! I've made it a couple of times now and we both like it! No acidity at all! Hubby is now requesting it nightly. =)

I am trying this now. I am thinking about putting the coffee filter onto the top of the jar when it's done, and then screwing just the ring part of the lid back on, and turning it upside down to filter into another mason jar. We'll see how it goes with that method.

Thank you for sharing the terrific ideas you find with everyone. The fence idea is wonderful and will do a lot to make my wild style garden look more respectable, not to mention that the rabbits may have to find their dinner buffet elsewhere.

I've been giving Starbucks a lot of my business on these first warm days and my coffee card is being drained by my love of iced coffee, no sweetener. I'm going to try your recipe for coldbrew--it sounds much like the sun tea that tastes so much better than regular tea when its iced to me. I'm wondering if I can use my french press in lieu of the mason jar and use the press instead of double-filtering the coffee after it's steeped. Come to think of it, the french pressed coffee I make the regular way could use an extra filtering, but I generally just "enjoy" the extra fiber content in it and hope that no little grounds get stuck in the space between my front teeth.

Thanks again for all the ideas.

Thanks, Meghan for another good episode. I am going to share you cold-brew coffee tips with my family. I loved the fence idea -- probably not dog proof either but adorable. Good luck with Constructor's Fair. That's such a fun venue (although I've only been there at night time). If weather holds it should be a great event for you.

Heehee, Wolverine with the hand combs. Funny! I liked hearing about the flicking, thank you for the info. I was hoping to see pix of the bobbins you're talking about. Could you add a pic? ('Cause you know, you're not busy enough) ;)
