Just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your podcast, and have been inspired by your "townhomesteading" to do more gardening, living more thoughtfully, etc. I am an avid, addicted knitter and don't seem to get through a day without a few visits to Ravelry; I download knitting podcasts to listen to during my lunch hour at work (and knit, of course!) Total knitting geek. I suspect you live in my general area (I'm cousinknits on Ravelry). It's a kick to see you've been to some of my favorite places (like Esther's Place); have you been out to the Fold in Huntley? -- lot's of fun to hear about local stuff -- I guess this isn't the edge of the universe after all!! I wondered about your husband's band -- my son has a ska-punk band that has played in DeKalb in recent memory. Hope all is going well with his band.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and keep up the good work. It's always great fun to listen to your podcast.

PS American Science and Supplies is a stone's throw away from where I work now and an awesome place to take the kids -- we used to go there just to look around for hours!

Hi Meghan, I love your podcast. I just found you on itunes and am up to episode 69 Woooo!! You mentioned your plans for a small garden in thelast episode and I wanted to share withyou an idea for planting lettuce in a hanging basket. You can use one of the wire baskets the you put the peatmoss liner in and just poke the little plants in all around. I used to do this when I lived in Wa state and it worked a charm. I now live in Ca and it is to stinkin' hot here, but with the humidity you get it should be fine. My husband was born and raised in Rockford and the Quad City area.
Keep up the good work. I bought a spinning wheel this year and am learning so much from you and my fingers itch when I listed to you on the way to work.

Hi Meghan,
With all of the shows you like to go to, and knowing that you are always trying to stretch your dollars, I thought I would share a resource:
www.educatorstravel.com
You don't have to be an educator, and the network provides for overnight stay and a continental breakfast all over the world....for around $40. a night. You do have to be willing to reciprocate if asked, once a year.

I recently visited my son, daughter-in-law and new granddaughter in NYC. I was there for four nights, and could have easily paid over $800. in hotel expenses.
Instead, my bill was $145. And the apartment where I stayed was within four blocks walking distance of my kids' apartment; very convenient!

Hi Meghan,
I listen to you all the time, and I thought it was funny on a recent podcast that you said your exercise went better when you were listening to an audiobook or something like that as opposed to music. I've observed the same thing, since you actually have to pay attention, but ironically it's you I listen to in order to stay focused on my run. haha

Hi Meghan:

Just a quick note to let you know that I was listening to podcast 75 today and about fell out of the car when I heard you say that you grew up in Kankakee and then about Jaenecke's (?sp?). I grew up in Bourbonnais but moved to Mt. Prospect/Arlington Heights in 1985; I then moved to the South Bend, IN area in 1990. I can remember my dad taking us to Jaenecke's when I was really small. My mom worked second shift at St. Mary's Hospital, so he took care of the three of us kids. Then, I had two more brothers come along, and five of us all together got to be a little too much for him to handle alone. ;-) So there you have it--small world, huh?

I enjoy your podcasts. I found them in late April and have been an avid listener since. I'm a knitter but enjoy your gardening and spinning tales just as much. Most of all, I love the Little Man stories. It's been fun getting to know you over the airwaves. Keep up the great work!

Regards,
Ann Feltz

Love your show. Just found you and downloaded a couple of podcasts. So sorry about your son's hearing aids; but glad you got them back. Do not be afraid of dpn. Just pretend you are knitting with 2 needles and let the other 2 dangle like they are not there. I do love MAGIC loop and 2 circs. I think you said you tried that. I started on dpns for mittens then on a cap then on socks. I then switched over to 2 circs now I do magic loop. Socks are my favorite. I wear them all year long. Keep up the good job o the pod cast!

Meghan,
I was listening to recent podcast & your interest in canning. Your local county extension agent's office should have free booklets on canning. I've relied on those for years & even have one that was my grandmother's that's priceless. Do be carefull with the tomatoes as they tend to require special effort in order to prevent botulism; most tomato canning information will highly recommend you pressure can them as opposed to hot water bath. If you just freeze or can a completely cooked tomato sauce, I don't think it's quite as critical. I have a really good canning/preserving book somewhere & can't remember the name but it's something as simple as The Canning & Preserving Everything Book. Try subject book search on Amazon, then check your library, as you had mentioned.

I'm really proud of you for wanting to do this. There's nothing equal to foods you have put up yourself! All of my friends know the criteria of getting fresh canned gifts from me: jar is always returned to me:)!

I have been enjoying your knitting podcasts for quite a while & hope that I can be a contributor/sponsor/aid in the near future. Keep up the good work.
