Okay,
so as i said, part of the SOAR scholarship project is for me to report back in July of the following year and let the scholarship committee know what you did with all of the knowledge that you absorbed during your time at SOAR over the previous year.
Because I do a podcast, and because i share all of this information with you, my podcast listeners, I felt it was most appropriate to send the committee a recording. What is on the recording? well, my hope is to gather as many recorded statements as i can get.
SO
i set up an account for this at drop.io
it’s basically a page that you can upload pictures, post messages, and they also provide me with a phone number and extension where you can call and leave me a voice message telling me what you’ve learned from me and my SOAR knowledge.
646-462-4031 x 27505
please call! When you do, all i need is your name (first only is fine), where you are calling from (just so we get an idea of how far this interwebz thing reaches), and explain what you have learned from my experience.
if you record and don’t like what you said, let me know! and i’ll delete the message so you can re-record.
if you can’t call long distance, and you have a computer that will let you record something, do it! and email me the mp3. if you can only email, please do, and i’ll read your email for you.
i’d like to get as many as possible so i can burn CDs of all of you telling the scholarship committee what you have learned from my experience at SOAR. basically, this is our big thank you card!
Thank you so much for helping me out with this! i can’t wait to mix all of this stuff together!

Grandma Marita’s Cherry Soup stock:
2 cans sour/tart cherries
1/4c sugar
1tsp butter
1 can water
dumplings:
2 eggs
1/4c water
dash of salt
1tbs sugar
flour
Combine stock ingredients and mash cherries in pan. Simmer for 5 minutes.
In a medium bowl, beat eggs. Add water, salt and sugar and stir. Gradually add flour until batter is stiff enough to drop by teaspoons into simmering liquid and hold together. If too thin, add more flour. When dropping, dip spoon into liquid first before dipping into batter so the dumpling will release from the spoon without sticking. Simmer for 5 minutes or until dumplings are cooked.
great with whipped cream or ice cream. yummy warm and cold! enjoy!
i’ve been thinking a lot lately about the possibility of getting some show sponsors. they would not only help me keep the lights on, but i’d hope the extra funding would allow me to get to different events, take more classes, and try more products to review.
as much as i would love to throw down the money myself, unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen. and with my birthday and christmas in december, well that leaves the rest of the year kinda open when it comes to exploring new products and classes.
so i thought i’d open up the conversation to my listeners to see what you think.
how do you feel about sponsors? do you mind advertising in your podcasts? do you have any other ideas?
the only other ideas i came up with are:
selling tshirts or pins
creating a cookbook of my favorite recipes to sell
having things to raffle off to people who donate funds
i just feel like i’m not always able to give you more every week. i know i’d love to learn more so i can share more! so, what do you think? i’m open to suggestions!
either reply to the post here or send me an email!

how to make coldbrew coffee: supplies: mason jar, bowl, coffee grounds, water, metal sieve, coffee filter, funnel
1/4c-1/3c course ground coffee (remember: good beans=good coffee)
1 1/2c room temperature water
put coffee and water in jar, stir with spoon until combined, put on lid, and let it sit. 3 hours minimum, but overnight for best flavor
in the morning, put sieve in bowl. open jar, pour coffee gunk through the sieve into the bowl.
discard coffee grounds (good for garden and compost!)
rinse out mason jar really well. put funnel in top of mason jar, put coffee filter in funnel. pour coffee from the bowl, through the coffee filter and into the mason jar. let it sit and filter through.
when it’s done, remove filter and funnel, cap jar and put in fridge until you are ready to use.
if you are ready, pour over ice, and add water or creamer, sip and enjoy.
want it hot? okay! add hot water. want it strong? don’t add any water! drink it straight!

Affy Tapple Salad
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons instant tapioca
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained with juice reserved
4 apples, cored and chopped (2 green, and 2 red)
2 cups chopped peanuts (or you can use the kind for ice cream sundaes)
2 cups miniature marshmallows
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
In a medium saucepan, stir together the flour, sugar, tapioca, vinegar, and the reserved pineapple juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Remove from heat and chill.
In a large bowl, combine the pineapple, apples, peanuts, marshmallows and chilled tapioca mixture. Fold in the whipped topping and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
