I think I’m going crazy….

Published by Meghan under Babble,knitting

Tempting

crazy……why? because i’m toying with using my berroco peruvia from the ill fated tilted duster for a Central Park Hoodie….

selling points:
-i love hoodies
-it’s a cardigan type sweater, which i want. no more pull overs
-it’s not steeking
-i want to do cabling again…it’s been a while, and i think i’ll enjoy it when it’s not the ENTIRE sweater full of cables..just some here or there.
pitfalls:
-it’s knit in pieces…..ugh
-i’d have to swatch again…..ugh
-set in sleeves……ugh
-cables……ugh
The only other thing i’m worried about is if you’ll be able to actually see the cabling in the Chipotle color peruvia i have to use…i think they’re chunky enough that you’ll see them…and if anything, I will know they are there! hmmmmmm…..

A better afghan description

Published by Meghan under Crochet,Pattern

first few rows of scrap afghan

i’ve gotten a few requests on ravelry for my afghan pattern and listening myself again on that earlier podcast, i realize i’m very confusing. again, it looks a lot more impressive then it actually is. so, i’ll post my description for the pattern here and i’ll put a picture up today of my progress too so you can see what it looks like so far. maybe eventually i’ll put together a pattern section on my sidebar for it to hang out in. we’ll see.

my sad little description here is:
chain an even number of stitches loosely

Row 1: single crochet

Row 2. turn, chain two (acts as double crochet), *double crochet 2 times in next stitch, skip one stitch. repeat from * until you get to the last stitch. end with one double crochet

Row 3. turn, chain two (acts as double crochet), *double crochet 2 times inbetween the two double crochets on the row below, repeat from * until the last double crochet, 1 double crochet in last stitch.

Row 4 and Beyond. repeat #3 until blanket is width you want, single crochet last row.

i’m doing the chain, row 1 and row 2 in my “main color”. then i do the next three rows in different colors (so each row is a unique color), then a row of main color, and repeat.

i’ve done this blanket for babies, toddlers, housewarming gifts, wedding gifts etc. it’s perfect, mindless, relaxing, and i can do it mostly solid with a few stripes, all striped, all solid (though i prefer the striping). it’s just a nice stitch!

If you finish a scrap afghan, be sure to share it and i’ll post it here so all can see! :)

what to be when i grow up

Published by Meghan under Babble,Crochet,knitting

i’m having to face the possibility of another career change, and i have no idea what i want to be when i grow up. isn’t that funny? how many people stay in the field they originally thought they wanted to be? when i was growing up, i wanted to be a band director. i love music, and i love teaching it. after years of school, and trying it on for size, i found it just wasn’t my thing. i love music and i love teaching it, just not on the scale that is required by a school. in short, i prefer 1 or 2 students at a time, not 1 or 2 hundred.now i do mortgages. not interesting, but it pays the bills. and i do it well. unfortunately, that field is drying up now as well. so now? i have no idea!  knitting is going well….i’m going to set the socks and owen’s sweater aside tonight and work on my scrap afghan. i like crochet. just comforting to me. sometimes you just want to “revert” for comfort, ya know? crochet does that. i don’t have to think about it, my hands know what to do.  yo, poke through, pull up a loop………

Stressful Time=Productive Weekend

Published by Meghan under Babble,Crochet,knitting

I admit it…I’ve been stressed out. All last week I applied for jobs, went on 2 interviews, had to make major life decisions, and wasn’t too happy about having to do it. I was stressed. So what did I do? I stitched.

I got quite a bit done on owen’s tomten. it’s turning out pretty cute too, if i do say so myself.

Owen's Tomten

See, cute, right? and it looks JUST like my MSPaint picture/plan. genius!!! I’m going to have him try this section on tonight to make sure it all fits right before i start on the sleeves. it’s a quick knit so far, i just wish i made it with a washable wool, instead of the acrylic/cotton. aside from the nice burning qualities, i also find it stretches in the garter stitch.

Also, because of the stress, i allowed myself to purchase some 40″ size 1 addi turbos and some new stitch markers. Why? so i could start these:

Bellatrix Socks
yeah, it’s an artsy fartsy photo of it, but what are you gonna do?! hahaha. i LOVE the 2-at-a-time method. casting on and getting through the first couple rows was kinda shakey, but it’s like that whenever you knit socks, because the yarn is so thin and you’re setting up your circle. but, it’s looking good so far. i’m still worried they’ll be to big, but i tried one on last night (another benefit of magic loop method! they’re always ready to try on!) and it looks like it’ll fit great. i think i’ll need to block them, though. so you can see the pattern. oh well.

On the crochet front, I sat up late in bed last night getting the first 3 rows of my scrap blanket done. they’re the chain, single crochet row, and first row of the V-stitch. those three rows suck, just because its that first row. now? should go fairly quick! i have a little cloth folding basket thing i’m going to throw all of the scrap balls in, and keep it by the bed. i love crocheting in bed. i don’t have to think. especially with this stitch. love that. i’ll get a few rows done, and i’ll post a picture up here for you (all 3 of you) to enjoy!

So see, i had a productive weekend. stress suits me, huh?

ps. i turned down the job offer. just giving up too many things that are important to me. i think there has to be something closer to the ideal job out there, i just have to look a little longer then 1 week.
